I urge Santa Monica city officials (including the City Council as necessary) to take all needed steps to assure a fair and legal opportunity to applicants to obtain display space to continue the full Nativity Scenes and menorah displays in Palisades Park for 2012 and for every year thereafter:

Because the Santa Monica Nativity Scenes is a beloved tradition that has lifted spirits and welcomed the Christmas season in Palisades Park since 1953.
Because its message of love, hope, and peace has attracted thousands of Santa Monicans and visitors, creating a sense of community and causing Santa Monica to be known as “the City of the Christmas Story,”
Because it is a local grass-roots effort supported by donations from individuals, businesses, and churches and is sponsored by 14 Santa Monica-based organizations representing more than 20,000 people,
Because the annual Hanukkah menorah display is another time-honored tradition in Palisades Park.
